Québec (CMAQ) Deux jours après l'arrestation de six personnes qui auraient comploté "dans le but de poser un geste d’éclat dangereux afin de nuire aux activités du Sommet", la version des forces de l'ordre est mise à mal par différents témoignages rapportés par les grands médias.

15:50- (CMAQ) Des individus ont fait tomber une partie de la barrière entourant le périmètre de sécurité en utilisant des cables. Des centaines de manifestant étaient présents sur les lieux au moment de cette attaque.

As protestors confronted police for the first time in Quebec today, protestors in Brazil, demonstrating against the FTAA in downtown Sao Paulo, were violently repressed. Over 600 Brazilian students and activists began a march at noon today with singing and street theatre. Less than two hours later, riot police were called in and protestors were submitted to tear gas, beatings and numerous arrests.

Ottawa may soon join the 20-odd municipalities that have voted against the FTAA. The influential Committee voted unanimously to adopt a resolution on the
possible negative impacts on Municipal democracy of the proposed FTA) and the WTO's new round on the GATS. City Council will debate the resolution on the 5th of May.

La Convergence des luttes anti-capitalistes (CLAC), dont il fait partie, ainsi que le Comité d’accueil du Sommet des Amériques (CASA), ont dénoncé vertement cet enlèvement illégal qui démontre que le Canada est un État policier.

The first action that commenced at 00.00UTC, 20th april 2001, consists
of a "virtual sit-in" of web sites associated with the FTAA
conference. The purpose of the 'virtual sit-in' is to indicate your
objection to the FTAA conference and the entire FTAA process by
generating an electronic record of public pressure through the server
logs of the organisations concerned. The objective of the action is
not to crash the servers of these organisation (although this is
possible if a few hundred thousand people take part), it is to provide
a record of the public's participation in the sit-in. We are then
challenging the organistions concerned to release their server logs to
show the level of take-up of the sit-in.

Shortly, there will be an opportunity to take part in an "automated
letter-writing lobby" - this will be uploaded sometime during
Friday/Saturday.

Please participate, and let the FTAA and it's supporters know the
level of public opinion against them.
