[USA] A Great Place To Start Making Spending Cuts

Anonyme, Martes, Julio 27, 2010 - 22:44

Sudhama Ranganathan

So far this year various issues have taken center stage as campaign rhetoric here in America gets fired up across the national political spectrum. Among the most oft revisited is government spending. With TARP emergency spending measures introduced by the George W Bush administration and subsequent additions to this it makes sense. People from across the political landscape were upset by the idea the very people responsible for the reckless behavior which led the country and world to such a perilous financial position were being given a free pass and a taxpayer financing to boot. Worse was the fact they were handed taxpayer dollars.

[Israel] An assault on democracy (bill to outlaw universal jurisdiction, July 2010)

CMAQ via Mic, Martes, Julio 20, 2010 - 16:48

By Ishai Menuchin, executive director of the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel

25 MKs have proposed legislation aimed at outlawing Israeli organizations involved in universal jurisdiction activity - if passed, the bill would endanger Israeli democracy.

Excerpt :
As the political left has shrunk in size and influence, the organizations that promote universal values have become the only clear and systematic opposition to official human rights abuses, whether within Israel proper or in the occupied territories. Thus, HROs have become the new enemies of the Israeli far right. For it, the human-rights agenda is unacceptable and inherently "anti-Israeli," and thus it has a duty to stop it.

[Iraq-USA] Big Distraction (2008)

Anonyme, Jueves, Julio 15, 2010 - 08:19

The War in Iraq has been a complete disaster that is about as obvious as you can get. Following 9/11 the Bush administration used the opportunity to rush through a credible sounding excuse to go into Iraq. This was done on the backs of people with solid reputations and years of service to their country being pressured to lend credence to shaky evidence.

do, Martes, Julio 13, 2010 - 05:32

Is Israel A Normal Country ?

An important and often neglected question...

July 12, 2010

Critique of an article with the same title in Toronto’s Globe and Mail by Ian Buruma
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinions/is-israel-a-normal-country/...

This article starts with a brave question, and I think for most people the answer is apparent with the asking of the question.

But like the famous line of T.S. Elliot, the piece ends, not with a bang, but a whimper.

After asking a question which would never pass the lips of Israel’s establishment, the article makes the very claims and assertions the Israeli government would make.

Chasse aux journalistes à Washington

Anonyme, Viernes, Julio 9, 2010 - 07:10
