By 8:00 PM on Election Day, I was convinced that I was watching the slickest damn con job ever put over on the American people. The TV coverage was pitiful. By now its becoming increasingly clear that Bush stole another election. Once the results in western states could be predicted the vote tally in Florida could be juggled in favor of Bush. Once the outcome in the west was known the vote tally in Ohio could be juggled similarly.

Je ne crois personnellement, que la réélection de Georges W. Bush soit le désastre que l'on dit à gauche. Une catastrophe, peut-être, mais qui porte un grand potentiel de changement au niveau mondial.

Le droit de critiquer Israël à cause de ses comportements politiques contre les Palestiniens demeure presque impossible. Malgré les déclarations et les slogans politiques des dirigeants israéliens portant sur l’aspect démocratique de l’État d’Israël, la mise en question de la politique de l’État hébreux reste au-delà de tout jugement.

Dans Le Devoir, on a pu lire le suivant du premier ministre néerlandais, Jan Peter Balkenende, à propos de l'affreux assassinat du cinéaste Theo Van Gogh: « C'est un jour triste pour la liberté d'opinion qui est la pierre angulaire de la démocratie et de l'État de droit. » Ces mots m'ont fait tout de suite penser à mon propre futile combat au Québec pour la liberté d'expression. Oui, on pourrait dire, pour ce qui le concerne, que la liberté d'annuler les opinions qui ne font pas partie de la pensée en rond est devenue la pierre angulaire de l'Etat du statu quo littéraire québécois. Oh, tristesse !  Mais pourquoi la tristesse? Ben, parce que moi j'aime beaucoup le Québec, y ayant voyagé un peu partout de Blanc-Sablon à Vieux-Fort, à Natashquan, aux îles de la Madeleine, à l’île verte, à Anticosti, au Gaspé, et à Normandin. Or, étant poète polémiste ardent, je ne peux que décrier la situation que j’ai pu découvrir chez les littérateurs québécois. Oh, tristesse !

 
Le rôle joué par la religion dans l'élection de G.W. Bush ne peut qu'amener ceux qui se disent croyants à se poser de sérieuses questions sur les valeurs véhiculées par leurs croyances.
