TORONTO, FEBRUARY, 2006 -- It seems that Black History Month is an appropriate time to reflect on the case of one Douglas Gary Freeman (the former Joseph Coleman Pannell, Jr.), a 56-year-old African American man who has sitting in a Canadian jail for almost two years as he fights extradition to the United States.

KINGSTON: Teach-in Against "Guantanamo North"

Anonyme, Monday, March 6, 2006 - 16:16

Is it necessary to deny people their most elemental human rights to "guarantee" national security?

Detained for years without charge, held on secret evidence that the accused does not have access to, threatened with deportation and torture, this is the situation for five men from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Within the next month, four of these five men will be transferred, far from their families, to an isolated wing of the Milhaven maximum security prison, just outside of Kingston, Ontario. This recent addition to the prison has been built specifically to house those detained under the controversial security certificates.

The anti-Islam cartoons and the imperialist powers’ strategic considerations

Anonyme, Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 12:43

13 February 2006. A World to Win News Service. The worldwide upsurge of anger sparked by the anti-Islamic cartoons was the main item on the agenda for the meeting of Nato defence ministers at the weekend. This reveals how much all the imperialist powers feel that their strategic interests are at stake. It is impossible to understand the fury surrounding these caricatures first published in Denmark without looking at the material interests and political and economic factors involved. It is also important to examine the relationship between those interests and the propagation of certain ideas, and the complex interaction between those two spheres.
