The communist ideas, the communist prospect, are diffused only while working in the rows of the proletariat and not while being isolated in groups from the left or in line with capitalism. Alliance with these groups, whose policies are clearly opposed to the interests of the proletariat, can only lead to one opportunist cul-de-sac which in the final analysis serves only the intentions of the bourgeoisie by sowing confusion within our class.

C'est avec colère et une grande tristesse que nous avons appris l'annonce du décès du camarade Crispin Beltran, ou «Ka Bel» -- une figure de proue du mouvement ouvrier et du mouvement national démocratique aux Philippines, un héros du prolétariat international et certainement aussi un grand ami de la classe ouvrière canadienne. Âgé de 75 ans, Ka Bel était venu au Canada il y a à peine un mois, pour promouvoir la campagne contre les disparitions et les assassinats politiques aux Philippines. Membre du Congrès philippin, où il avait été réélu l'an dernier sur la liste du parti Anakpawis (un mot qui signifie «masses travailleuses»), Ka Bel suscitait à la fois la crainte et le respect de la part des membres de la clique dirigeante au pouvoir dans ce pays. Cette crainte était certes à la hauteur de son dévouement envers les masses populaires et de son attachement à la lutte pour la libération nationale et sociale aux Philippines.

A worldwide campaign is emerging to demand the freedom of Dr Binayak Sen, a public health doctor and human rights campaigner in the impoverished Indian state of Chhattisgarh who has now spent a year in prison, accused of aiding the rural rebellion led by the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The paediatrician distanced himself from the politics of armed revolution, but refused to stop exposing and denouncing the oppression and injustice practiced against the adivasis (tribal people). He has been particularly vocal against the authorities' attempts to unleash counterrevolutionary terror in the countryside through the state-sponsored paramilitaries called the Salwa Judum.

Jeudi 8 mai, 2008 — Un peu plus de soixante personnes se sont rassemblées au Carré d’Youville à Québec, où elles ont allumé des flambeaux pour Le relais mondial de la flamme des droits humains en Chine. Elles ont ensuite marché sur la Grande Allée pour revenir devant l’Assemblée nationale du Québec. Au moins une dizaine des participant-es ont des parents d’origine tibétaine. David Matas, avocat pour les droits humains, a participé aux activités.

Cette action venait aussi appuyer L’Appel au respect des droits humains en Chine signé par dix groupes, dont plusieurs organismes de défense des droits humains et la confédération des associations étudiantes de l’Université Laval.

Durant le référendum dans le département bolivien de Santa Cruz, il y a eu des chocs entre partisans du gouvernement et opposants avec un solde d'un mort et plus de 35 blessés. Comme il était prévu, le projet encouragé par l'opposition de droite à Evo Morales a obtenu plus de 80 pour cent des voix tandis que des actes massifs de rejet étaient réalisés à La Paz et dans d'autres villes.
