Israël considérait Ben Ali comme l’un des plus importants présidents des pays arabes, soutenant secrètement sa politique dans la région.

Comme beaucoup de tunisiens à l’étranger, je suis totalement dépendante des médias pour avoir des informations sur ce qui se passe en Tunisie. Par déformation professionnelle (je suis une ancienne journaliste), j’ai eu tendance, du moins au début, à favoriser les médias traditionnels, télés, radios, presse écrite. N’étant pas sur place, n’ayant d’aucune manière participé à la Révolution Tunisienne (celui qui a inventé l’expression « révolution du jasmin » devrait être exilé, on dirait une pub pour un TO), je ne me suis jamais sentie le droit d’intervenir, de donner mon avis, où seulement de commenter un post.

La décision du collège des médecins de ne pas condamner le trafic d’amiante (comme on dit trafic d’armes ou trafic d’êtres humains) ne me surprend aucunement. Je n’ai jamais eu une très haute opinion de cette profession.

Ce qui m’a surpris est d’apprendre récemment que la CSN , que je croyais un peu plus progressiste que les hommes d’affaires de la FTQ , appuyaient l’exportation de la mort chez les pays pauvres ou émergeants.

Et dire que ces 2 centrales syndicales manifestaient contre la guerre en Irak et contre W. Bush.

À la prochaine guerre, messieurs, dames, soyez conséquents, arrêter l’hypocrisie et rester chez vous lors des manifs. En plus d’être assassins, vous êtes obscènes.

Le tortionnaire Ben Ali, ancien dirigeant de la sûreté militaire qui se vantait de participer à la torture de ses opposants, a dû s’enfuir avec sa famille vers des cieux meilleurs, poussé par ses anciens collaborateurs et sûrement par l’armée. La famille Ben Ali, que l’ambassade américaine décrit comme étant à la tête de tout un système de corruption, à tel point que cela en devenait gênant pour le bon fonctionnement des affaires elles-mêmes, a cristallisé sur elle le rejet de ce régime odieux, non seulement de la part du prolétariat, mais finalement de presque toutes les classes sociales.

CAIRO, Jan 9, 2011 (IPS) - At least three Algerians have died and hundreds have been injured in four days of protests over housing shortages, rising food prices and failing economic policies that only three months ago won praise by the International Monetary Fund and other Western financial institutions.

The protests in Algeria come as similar demonstrations continue unabated in the neighbouring North African nation Tunisia, also hailed previously as an economic success story by Western banks and investors.

At least four Tunisians have died during the ongoing protests against the poor economic performance of Western-backed autocratic ruler President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali.

The protests in both Arab countries were initially ignored by the Western media and Western governments but as the protests escalated Washington began to take note.

A Middle East advisor to former U.S. president George W. Bush and leading neo-conservative Elliott Abrams said on his blog at the Council on Foreign Relations that Tunisia was an "unimportant" country, but expressed concern that the fallout from the demonstrations could be dangerous for other Arab nations.

Ce texte a été rédigé quelques jours avant le départ de Ben Ali. Son départ est bien entendu une manœuvre de la bande de voleurs toujours au pouvoir à Tunis qui ne visent qu’à maintenir leur régime inhumain. Nous croyons donc que les lignes suivantes conservent toute leur actualité. En effet, les derniers événements, avec le départ de Ben Ali, montrent que la lutte ne doit pas s’arrêter pour ne pas se laisser avoir par les tentatives de mettre en place l’unité nationale de tous les partis bourgeois et « démocratiques ». Les travailleurs doivent continuer la lutte pour unir tous les secteurs.

William Daley was named Obama's new chief of staff, replacing Rahm Emanuel. Gene Sperling, a key player in the negotiations that extended the Bush era tax cuts for the wealthy, will replace Lawrence Summers to become director of the National Economic Council, the same position he held under President Bill Clinton.

Ben Ali est parti, mais la dictature est toujours là.  La révolution doit continuer !  Écoutez l’appel de Moncef Marzouki en vidéo dans l’article.  Puisque les Tunisiens veulent une vraie révolution, ils ne doivent à aucun prix s’en remettre à un éventuel sauveur suprême.  Il n’y a pas de Zorro !  Les Tunisiens doivent s’auto-oganiser en coordination.  La libération des Tunisiens sera l’oeuvre des Tunisiens eux-mêmes !

Il pourrait être intéressant d’amorcer ici un échange sur les émeutes en Tunisie.

Voici, à mon avis quelques thèmes qui pourraient structurer pas forcément la compréhension mais au moins la mise en forme pensée de ces événements.

1)Première question : le caractère semble-t-il interclassiste de ces émeutes, mais comment selon les différences sociales les gens y prennent part ?

When I was at the University of Connecticut here in America from 2003 – 2006 I went through an experience involving group harassment starting in my sophomore year and ending about when I graduated. The labor group Partido ng Manggagawa (PM - Workers Party) called for a stop to the practice of charging fees to trainee or on-the-job-trainee (OJT) nurses in the wake of a Senate hearing yesterday on the issue. Renato Magtubo, PM chairperson, attended the hearing and supported the position of nurses groups for an end to the “exploitation of hundreds of thousands of young registered nurses.”

The subpoena provoked an uproar in Iceland, where the foreign minister summoned the US ambassador for an explanation. “[It is] very serious that a foreign state, the United States, demands such personal information of an Icelandic person, an elected official,” said Interior Minister Ogmundur Jonasson in a press interview with the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service.

This concern is heightened, Jonasson said, when “put [in] perspective and concerns freedom of speech and people's freedom in general.”
