Ribsauce Montréal Launch
November 22
La Sala Rossa 4848 St. Laurent

Free admission with purchase of ribsauce/5$ without

Ribsauce is a unique compilation of literature and sound recordings, showcasing some of Canada’s best women writers and performance artists.  At times comedic and poignant, edgy and insightful, Ribsauce investigates the intersections between text, performance, language and sound—places where some of the most interesting and challenging new writing is being produced.

The project consists of a book and an audio CD packaged together.

On the CD, genres range from traditional spoken word to dub
poetry, words&music, storytelling, hip hop and performance art.
The writers and artists merge content with the force of metre and
mannerism, sound sampling and crooning—a virtual stage for the
melodies and rhythms of the spoken word.  Many of the voices on
the CD come from established national and international word artists such as Debbie Young, Catherine Kidd, Judy MacInnes Jr., Sheri- D Wilson, Victoria Stanton, and Zaffi Gousopoulos.

- The book delves into an array of genre and cross-genre works,
from poetry and prose to plays, dramatic monologues and
everything in between. Works in this collection experiment with
narrative and voice, text and image, and include contributions from writers such as Heather O’Neill, Alice Tepexcuintle, Emily Pohl- Weary, Hiromi Goto, Marie Clements, and Erin Mouré

When literature is your main course, ribsauce is the tang—tasty,
irreverent new work from the new generation of Canadian women
writers.

Our first launch in Canada will take place in Montréal.  Spoken
Word performers include Catherine Kidd, Alexis O’Hara, Kaarla
Sundstrom and Alex Boutros, Skidmore, Victoria Stanton and Mary
Elizabeth Grace.  Writers include Taien Ng Chan, Dana Bath,
Francesca Lodico and many more. Hosted by the editors of the
anthology, this evening promises to be rivaled only by the anthology
itself!
