The upcoming Summit of the Americas in Quebec City has students both worried and excited. Some people aren't going because they don't want to get hurt, others are going out of mere curiosity and some could care less.
The potential threat of violence has some students happy to stay right where they are. Sadia Mirza said that with so many people protesting a cause, the demonstrations could get rowdy. "I would like to go, but I'm worried that I could get hurt. I'm sure most of the protesters are non-violent, but when the police get involved that always seems to change."

Many student groups have organized themselves to go to Quebec City for the summit. Members of Le Frigo Vert and other associations are making the trip. But not everybody is going with an organization. Psychology major Krista Rehurek and a few of her friends, are going out of curiosity. "I'm going because I want to, not because I have strong beliefs. I think it will be really interesting to see and hear what other people have to say."
Rehurek said the summit would attract people from different groups as well as those who were simply intrigued. "I've been seeing pamphlets and articles inviting people to go to the summit. I suppose it's intended for those who aren't going with a big group or for the people who want to just check it out," she said.

Even though there are flyers all over campus and articles in newspapers everyday, some students still don't really know what's going on in Quebec City and what the fuss is all about. One student who didn't want to give his name said the FTAA was something he knew nothing about. "Politics and demonstrations don't interest me. I have nothing against the students who think this is important, but I'd rather be doing something else with my time," he said. "To be honest with you, I don't even know what FTAA stands for," he said, embarrassed.
