CMAQ Team
The CMAQ - What is it? Who is it? How can you participate? From April 20-22, 2001, Quebec City will host the third Summit of the Heads of State of the Americas. The summit will principally deal with the creation of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). Realising that coverage of the event will contain the habitual slants of the mainstream media, and that Canadians have a right to know the entire story, the Centre for Media Alternatives – Quebec 2001 (CMAQ) was created as an alternative to the misinformation that will most likely surround the event. By accommodating a plurality of views on the FTAA and Globalisation, and by providing Canadians and people around the world access to altenative information on what is being organised for Quebec 2001 (including demonstrating the links that exist concerning the impacts of Free Trade between the North and the South), the CMAQ will generate debate, serve as a catalyst for reflection and contribute to increased citizen engagement through its coverage of the various events that will surround Quebec City 2001. In Quebec City: January 25, 2001, 7pm, at L’ Autre Caserne (325 5e rue, corner 3e avenue, Vieux-Limoilou) In Montreal: February 1, 2001, 7:30pm, at the Petit Campus (57 Prince –Arthur Est) Programme for Quebec City: Introductory remarks – Noam Chomsky (via the CMAQ) There will also be video screenings made by local artists Information: --------------------- -Introductory remarks by Alternatives Show: There will also be video screenings made by local artists Information |
