Soirée hommage à Lisandro Guarcax Gonzaléz

Ce jeudi 4 novembre nous rendrons hommage à Lisandro Guarcax Gonzaléz. Lisandro était un artiste maya kaqchikel de Guatemala. Il était un guide spirituel de sa communauté et il a travaillé pour le renouveau culturel du peuple maya. Le 25 août dernier il a été assassiné et ce crime n'a pas encore été éclairci. Sa mort est la dernière d'une série de meurtres parmi le groupe culturel qu'il a fondé, le groupe Sotz’il Jay. Au Guatemala, on lui a déjà rendu hommage à deux reprises lors des festivals qui ont été nommés Ton cœur fleurit. C'est avec respect que nous nous permettons aussi d'appeler notre soirée: Ton cœur fleurit!

Pour l'occasion, plusieurs artistes autochtones seront présents, dont Dany Bacon. Celui-ci est un auteur-compositeur-interprète innu originaire de Mani-Utenam et Pessamit. Depuis quelques années, ses chansons en langue innu se font entendre dans les radios du réseau de la SOCAM et en spectacle dans diverses communautés autochtones. Il se fait connaître dernièrement par sa collaboration avec le groupe Supay, avec lequel il propose une fusion originale innue-andine, un spécial «Bacon des Andes»! Pour cette soirée, il chantera accompagné de Julian Blacksmith, guitariste cri.

Également Iqi Balam et sa Banda de Gaza offriront une performance lors de cet hommage. Iqui est un artiste maya qui chante une musique engagée depuis plusieurs années au Québec. Vous pouvez en apprendre plus sur lui au site suivant: http://www.myspace.com/labandadegaza

Tribute evening to Lisandro Guarcax Gonzaléz

This Thursday November 4th will be a paying tribute to Lisandro Guarcax Gonzaléz. Lisandro was a maya kaqchikel artist from Guatemala. He was the spiritual guide of his community and he worked for the cultural revival of the Mayan people. On the last 25th of august he was murdered and the crime has not yet been clarified. His death is the latest in a series of murders among the cultural group he founded, called Sotz’il Jay.

In Guatemala, he has already been honored twice at festivals that were named Your heart is blooming.

With due respect, we gave ourselves the permission to call our evening: Your heart is blooming!

For this event, several Aboriginal artists will be present, including Danny Bacon who is a singer-songwriter originally from Mani-Utenam and Pessamit. Since a few years, his songs in Innu language are being heard through the radio networks of SOCAM and performing in many communities. He recently became well known through his collaboration with the band Supay, with who he is proposing an Andean-Innu musical fusion, a special «Bacon from the Andes»! For this evening he will sing and he will be accompanied by Julian Blacksmith, cree guitar player.

Also, Iqi Balam and his Banda de Gaza will be giving a performance during this tribute. Iqui is a mayan artist singing a committed music since many years in Quebec. You can learn more about him with the following link: http://www.myspace.com/labandadegaza
