2 of the 3 detainees, accused for the May 6 Athens Greece riots during the social forum's march, are on hunger strike. Tarasios Zadorozni since November 29 and Gerasimos Kyriakopoulos since December 7. All their appeals where rejected, and they are demanding for their release. Tarasios demands the unconditional release of his codefendants, the withdrawl of categories and ceasing of their case.

We publish two letters from anarchist prisoners from Greece.

Having been incarcerated behind bars and cement for the last six and a half months in Koridallos Prison, I ascertain that they have managed to imprison my body only. All else that is true and free I have managed to keep intact.

I am held hostage by the State because I had decided to participate in a protest demonstration. The system was seeking to find scapegoats in order to promote an image of control and administration of justice. The system’s corruption appeared in its full majesty since, from the very beginning, there were inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the police reports which, in succession, were necessarily modified when presented to the magistrate. Of course alterations, in combination with other pretexts that the interrogation set as the issue, served to delay my case so that the decision would be influenced by the six-month committee, and lead to my further imprisonment. How, indeed, could any judgment be valid that employed methods of deception and distortion of facts when there was no valid evidence against me.

Hemmed in by all possible choices, led to a dead-end, having endured the continuing injustice against my deepest being, I continue my struggle with whatever means I have left.

If they imagine that by imprisoning me they have subjugated my passion for freedom then they are laughable. In my attempt to heighten the contradictions of a decadent system and to demonstrate its totalitarian character, I shall cease to give them the right to determine my body - as it is the only thing that they possess of me, I shall convert it into a form of struggle against them for the purpose of my release.

Thus I have been on hunger strike since Wednesday November 29, and I ask for the immediate and unconditional release of myself and my co-defendants, the dropping of all charges and the closing of our cases. I shall not allow them to use freedom as a tool in their legal and political games. My struggle, however, will be a difficult one and will need the support and solidarity of people who are outside these walls and who support my struggle.

And the second letter.

I am Gerasimos Kiriakopoulos.

I am incarcerated in Koridallos Prison, accused of participating in violent episodes on May 6 during the 4th European Social Forum.

A few facts regarding my case:

On the afternoon of May 6 in Thiseio – where no violent activities occurred – six riot police arrested six people, blindly and without cause. One of these people was myself.

As they arrested me without reason, I believed that it was just on grounds of suspicion – in view of the general climate of that day. But, as you can see in my writing you this letter, things didn’t turn out that way.

Later, taken to police headquarters upon no grounds, upon no evidence, the police gave me a declaration to sign – that contained a mountain of charges. In order for the police to support these charges, they naturally stated in the six identical indictments that the arrests hadn’t taken place in Thiseio but rather in Monastiraki Square where violent episodes had taken place, and presented us as being the group that had carried these out.

Thus, upon no valid grounds I later went through interrogation proceedings where I was charged with serious felonies such as attempted murder and supply and possession of 50 explosives, - and without my being an escaped suspect or having been accused of such activities in the past (and how could I have been?) I was taken into custody. So I am incarcerated in Koridallos Prison upon no valid grounds whatsoever and facing serious charges. Consequently, all my applications for release have been rejected, and I am still held in prison upon false grounds.

I have questioned and I have wondered how I, a simple person, can prove my innocence in contradiction to the invalid police charges, without having any proof to offer other than my word. Indeed I cannot. And recognizing this fact and having no other way, therefore, to confront all these false accusations, and knowing that – beyond my serious health problems (a ruptured kidney and spleen) – my life could become endangered, I am beginning a hunger strike in protest at the false charges brought against me, and asking for my immediate release until my case stands trial.

e m’appelle Gerasimos Kyriakopoulos. Je suis en détention préventive dans la prison de Korydalos, accusé pour les incidents du 6 mai au 4ème Forum Européen.

En bref concernant mon affaire :
Dans l’après-midi du 6 mai au quartier d’Athènes, Thission, où il n’y a eu aucun incident, six membres des M.A.T. (les CRS grecs) ont procédé à six arrestations à l’aveuglette et totalement injustifiées dont la mienne. Puisqu’ils m’avaient arrêté sans que j’aie rien fait, j’ai pensé qu’il s’agissait simplement d’un simple contrôle, étant donné l’ambiance qui régnait ce jour-là. Pourtant, comme vous pouvez le comprendre puisque je vous écris cette lettre, ce ne fut pas le cas.
Puisque après m’avoir amené au commissariat central, sans preuve et sans aucun élément, les policiers m’ont demandé de signer un procès verbal qui contenait un nombre important d’accusations erronées. Et afin de pouvoir étayer ces accusations, ils mentionnent, dans les six procès verbaux identiques, que les arrestations n’ont pas eu lieu à Thission, mais à la place de Monastiraki, là où les incidents s’étaient déroulés, nous désignant comme la bande qui les avait agressé.
Ainsi, sans aucun élément réel, au cours de l’instruction, de très graves accusations m’ont été attribuées comme celles des tentatives d’homicide, de détention de 50 bombes explosives et alors que je présentais toutes les garanties pour me mettre à la disposition de la justice et que je n’ai eu jusqu’à ce jour aucun problème avec la police et la justice ni aucune condamnation, ils ont ordonné ma détention préventive. Ainsi je me retrouve sans aucun élément de preuve réelle en détention préventive dans la prison de Korydalos, avec de très graves accusations à charge contre moi.
Ensuite, mes demandes de mise en liberté ont toutes été rejetées.
Après maintes réflexions je me demande comment je peux prouver mon innocence, moi, une simple personne – n’ayant pour preuve que ma parole sur ce que j’ai vécu – contre six fausses accusations des policiers.
Evidemment, je ne peux pas.
Ainsi, étant désespéré et n’ayant pas d’autre moyen de faire face à ces fausses accusations et sachant que – étant donné les problèmes graves de santé que j’ai (rupture de rein et de rate) – ce que je fais peux me coûter ma vie, je commence une grève de la faim, protestant contre les fausses accusations qui m’ont été attribuées et demandant ma mise en liberté immédiate jusqu’au jugement de mon affaire.

Lettre de Tarassio Zadorozni depuis la prison de Korydalos a Athènes

ncarcéré derrière les grilles et le ciment, pris otage depuis six mois et demi dans la prison de Korydalos, je m’aperçois qu’ils ont réussi à emprisonner que mon corps. Tout ce qui est vrai et libre, je l’ai gardé intact.
Je me suis pris otage de l’Etat parce que j’ai décidé à participer dans une manif de protestation, parce que le système recherchait la victime expiatoire afin de donner l’image du contrôle et de l’administration de justice. La pourriture du système s’est rendue évidente après les témoignages inexacts et contradictoires des flics qui ont été obligés de les modifier quand ils ont dû se présenter devant la responsable de l’enquête. Certes, ces modifications ainsi que d’autres prétextes inventés par la dernière n’ont eu d’autre intention que de retarder mon affaire et d’obliger la commission semestrielle à prolonger mon incarcération. D’ailleurs, puisque il n’y a pas des éléments qui puissent prouver ma culpabilité, comment on pourrait rendre une décision solide, sinon par la manipulation et l’altération des faits.
Sans issue envisageable devant tous les choix possibles, ayant marre de cette injustice qui se poursuit contre moi, je continue ma lutte avec tous les moyens qui me restent.
S’ils croient qu’en me emprisonnant ils vont vaincre ma passion pour la liberté, ils se sont trompés. Dans un effort de renforcer les contradictions de ce système décadent et de démontrer son caractère totalitaire, j’ai décide à ne plus leur donner le droit de dominer mon corps. Puisque c’est la seule chose qu’ils possèdent, je vais l’utiliser comme une forme de lutte contre eux dans le but de me libérer.
Ainsi je commence une grève de la faim à partir 29 Novembre et je demande ma libération immédiate et inconditionnée de moi même et de mes co-détenus, nous acquittant des toutes les accusations et bouclant l’affaire. Je ne vais pas les laisser à utiliser la liberté comme un outil à leurs jeux juridiques et politiques. Par contre, ma lutte sera dure et j’aurai besoin de la solidarité des gens qui se trouvent en dehors des murs et qui sont intéressés à soutenir ma cause.
Les consciences ne peuvent pas être subjuguées, ni incarcérées, ni guidées.
