2500 Quebec softwood workers get the shaft.

US court decides BUSH/US needs to refund the 5.3 billion to CANADA, and we have signed an agreement that gets us only 4.3 billion and pays a 15 % duty. 2500 Quebec softwood workers pay the price.

Reported in the Vancouver Sun today (article link). And the best of it is the billion dollars left to the US actually goes to the US lumber industry in the form of donations. It will be used to support causes such as "improving forest health on private lands and aid forest-dependent communities in recovering from economic downturns" (Sounds very similiar to why we had duties put on us) Oh and 500 million or so given to the US members of the Coalition for Fair Lumber Imports. (the ones that demanded the duties against Canada) Talk about being sold down the river by Harper's conservatives and David Emerson. Now the big questions ? Is the Bloc Quebecois going to support the passing of this agreement ? Is this decision now one of what is best for the Bloc politically or what is best for Quebecers ?
