Whisper translation to French and English will be provided.

As US fighter planes continue to bombard Fallujah, Mosul and other cities across occupied Iraq, the commander-in-chief of the US Army, George W. Bush has confirmed his plans to pay an official visit to Ottawa on November 30 and December 1st 2004. The Canadian government, headed by Paul Martin, is preparing a warm welcome for him, betraying its true colors as a willing ally to a regime of international terrorism.

Across the world, people are waging battles for survival, dignity, freedom and justice against U.S. military and economic offensives. We can do no less. On November 30 and December 1st 2004, we must make the most of an opportunity to confront the Bush and Martin administrations on their murderous policies, so thinly disguised as "security agendas."

To this end, we invite all Montreal-area groups and individuals to an organizing meeting to:

--> share information about the upcoming demonstrations against Bush's visit being planned by groups organizing in Ottawa; --> coordinate Montreal-area efforts to mobilize as many people as possible for the demonstrations on N30 and D1; --> share information about initiatives being taken by Montreal-area groups within the framework of the demonstrations in Ottawa on N30 and D1.

This meeting hopes to initiate the creation of an ad-hoc organizing space for the sole purpose of mobilizing for Bush's visit to Ottawa. It does not aspire to becoming a permanent organizational body or political entity.

Nonetheless, the meeting is being called on the basis of the Peoples Global Action (PGA) hallmarks, which will serve as the basis of our work together:

  1. A very clear rejection of capitalism, imperialism and feudalism; all trade agreements, institutions and governments that promote destructive globalisation.
  2. We reject all forms and systems of domination and discrimination including, but not limited to, patriarchy, racism and religious fundamentalism of all creeds. We embrace the full dignity of all human beings.
  3. A confrontational attitude, since we do not think that lobbying can have a major impact in such biased and undemocratic organisations, in which transnational capital is the only real policy-maker;
  4. A call to direct action and civil disobedience, support for social movements' struggles, advocating forms of resistance which maximize respect for life and oppressed peoples' rights, as well as the construction of local alternatives to global capitalism.
  5. An organisational philosophy based on decentralisation and autonomy.
