Memefest 2004 (http://www.memefest.org/), the international festival of radical communications, has thrown open the doors on their annual competition and showcase of creative subversion. Memefest 2004, the international festival of radical communications, has thrown open the doors on their annual competition and showcase of creative subversion. All artists, activists, malingerers and malcontents are invited to submit work to the Beyond category (http://beyond.memefest.org/). It’s for folk interested in innovating radical communications models which fall completely outside of the commercial paradigm. And, students of Visual Arts and Design are invited to respond to the challenges set forth in the text Design is Not Enough. While students of Communications and Sociology can enter essays which tackle the predictions set forth in Cyberwar is Coming by the RAND Institute. Details at http://www.memefest.org/. All entries are published in our online gallery where they are discussed and workshopped with visitors to the site. In early summer, the entries are evaluated by an international jury of leading radical thinkers, visual artists, and communications professionals. This year’s jury includes Douglas Rushkoff, Brian Holmes, PK Langshaw, Tanja Rener, and Howard Rheingold.
