Rosia Montana: the truth has been spelled out

Anonyme, Jueves, Abril 8, 2004 - 12:11

A major daily newspaper has published an article summarizing the realities about a devastating cyanide-mining project: Rosia Montana, the biggest European gold mine. The poll shows massive rejection of the project.

After years of playing with words and figures about popular "support" and economic "benefits" for its Rosia Montana project, Gabriel Resources is now facing truth: the poll shows that 92% of respondents consider the project dangerous from social and economical viewpoints.

The article summarizes the reasons why: exploitation license has been obtained through fraud; the project goes against Romanian and EU legislation regarding environmental impact evaluation, pollution, phreatic and ground water - among others. The slightest error will poison life of hundreds of thousands of peoples and will wipe out life on large area - this is the same area where the biggest ecological disaster after Tchernobil occurred in 2000: the Danube poisoning with cyanide. The ecosystem will be damaged for the next 50-60 years. Error or not, thousands of peoples will be relocated to please the greedy company.
