Haunted Land: documentary on a massacre committed in Guatemala

"Haunted Land," an award winning documentary that
tells the story of a massacre committed in Guatemala,
will be screened on Tuesday, April 8, 6:30 PM, at
the Moot Court, McGill Faculty of Law (Peel and
Penfield, NW corner). A discussion will follow
with the film's director, Mary Ellen Davis, who also
teaches at Concordia University's School of Cinema.

The film moves into Guatemala's recent past and
focuses on a Maya survivor of one of many massacres
committed by government soldiers, as well as on a
Guatemalan photographer. Together, they travel to a
remote site in the highlands, where the community
of Petanac once stood. The bones found there by
archaeologists tell a story of agony.

Everyone is welcome to attend. The screening is
sponsored by McGill's Human Rights Working Group
and the Refugee Research Project. The documentary
is subtitled in English.
