OTL sends Montreal Fringe Festival mis-en-demurevieuxcmaq, Monday, October 22, 2001 - 11:00
Optative Theatrical Laboratories (otl@subdivision.com)
Optative Theatrical Laboratories has placed Mainline Theatre on mis-en-demure for Fraud. Their show, CAR STORIES was kicked out of the Montreal fringe Festival 2001 due to a conflict-of-interest sponsorship with THE GAZETTE (the critic got offended.) The profits of the show were never given to OTL. October 22nd, 2001 Unfortunately I am putting you and Mainline Theatre on mis-en-demure because you have violated the contract with Optative Theatrical Laboratories, and are liable to pay damages under Quebec law. I have been in Europe all summer and am now back and ready to reclaim the money we were defrauded of. While I don’t want to have to take this to the Court, you will give me no option unless you reimburse the money from the CAR STORIES experiment, which was mostly out of my own pocket. As you know very well, Lisa Levack quit OTL, and I informed you at the time that we did not accept her negotiating on our behalf. I am asking for total sales from the show, plus projected sales for the half that was closed down due to the conflict-of-interest sponsorship that was abused by The Gazette, plus the cost of the arrest. You should have the figures, but can contact me for them as well. I am giving you 14 days to respond before taking legal action. Please note that I hold nothing personal against you guys – I think you are nice enough fellows, and made the wrong decision under pressure. I did enjoy playing with you in the meta-theatrical part of CAR STORIES, and hope one day we can play together again in another project (on the same side!) Please get in touch at 426-5452. Sincerely, Donovan King, Artistic Facilitator otl.20m.com
