Activists Global (switzerland@indymedia.org)

Call for global actions one moth after the G 8 summit started and an activist got killed. Against repression and in solidarity with the prisoners

20th of August: Global Action Day for Genoa: Our resistance continues!

On July 20th, the activist Carlo Giuliani was killed by the police during the protests against the G8-summit in Genua (Italy) through two shots in the head.

On July 21st The police raided the Diaz-school and beat up the activists inside the building ( some of them were already sleeping) in such a brutal way, that they got seriously injured.
Some activists were nearly beaten up to death, other will suffer physically and mentally from the consequences of this action for all their life.
On the police station , the arrested people were tortured systematically and frightened. During the following days, activists were persecuted and arbitrarily arrested by the police.
500 activists have been arrested in and around Genoa, 50 of them are still in jail.
So far, this is the climax of repression against the global anti-capitalist movement in western countries.

During the protests against Worldbank and IMF in Prague in September 2000, activists were tortured, during the protests against the EU-summit in Gothenburg in June 2001, swedish police shot activists in the back, one of them was very seriously hurt. Activists were sentenced to long time imprisonment.
Everyday, people who fight for a better life are tortured and killed on the whole planet.

The western "democracies" are not an exception: If the ruling class faces effective ressistance, they respond with police terror.
This repression makes clear, that they do not act in the name of the people but to maintain the structures ( of oppresion)
But their repression only strengthens our determination!

Therefore we call up to the Global Action Day on August 20th, one month after Carlo Giuliani has been shot.

Many activists did different actions in different countries and cities, inside and in front of italian embassies, TV stations and Party offices, to express their rage and grief at the murder and their solidarity with the prisoners and tortured.
Be creative, do actions, exercise pressure, spread the date and the idea!

Free the prisoners of Genoa!
Our resistance continues!
