This coming fall, the movement against capitalist globalization continues with major mobilizations planned against the IMF/World Bank meetings in Washington this September, and against the WTO that will meet in Qatar on November 9. Our friends in Ontario, on the initiative of the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP), are also planning a major economic disruption campaign against the neo-liberal policies of the Mike Harris government.

In addition to the mobilizations against specific trade accords or international institutions, there are obviously significant local sites of struggle and resistance against exploitation and injustice.

The purpose of this Public Assembly is 1) to create a space to share information about upcoming mobilizations and actions, with the aim of making them that much more effective; 2) to begin discussions about how best to complement and reinforce ongoing organizing efforts; 3) to provide a space in which to propose specific mobilizations or actions for this fall.

Particular issues that the assembly will address include:
- police repression and brutality in Montreal
- housing, gentrification and public space in Montreal
- support for campaigns for the rights of immigrants and refugees
- targeting local examples of capitalist globalization in Montreal
- the economic disruption campaign in Ontario this fall called by OCAP
- the mobilization against the IMF/WB in Washington this September
- the mobilization against the WTO on November 9
- to begin to speak about organizing against the next G-8 meeting in Canada

Minimally, the Assembly will provide a space to obtain information and make contacts about various mobilizations. At best, it might allow us to collectively plan and reinforce ongoing organizing efforts.

This assembly is being called for those who share an opposition to capitalism, patriarchy and racism, who wish to organize in an autonomous, non-hierarchical way, who support a confrontational attitude as opposed to reformist alternatives, and who respect a diversity of tactics, ranging from popular education to direct action.

The Assembly will begin at 6pm with videos and slides. The discussion itself will begin at 7pm (sharp) with information about various upcoming mobilizations and campaigns, and then proceed with an open discussion with facilitators and translators. Childcare will be available, and the assembly space is wheelchair accessible.
