All Out !! for Let Cuba Live Day of Response Portland Maine, Saturdy July 21, 12:00 Monument Square.
Protest the seizure of medical aid for Cuba by US Customs at the Maine/Quebec border.
Let Cuba Live, Caravane d'Amitie Quebec-Cuba, l'Associacion Quebecois les Amis de Cuba
, and IFCO/Pastors for Peace call on citizens to protest.

*** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE *** 7/14/01

On Saturday, July 21 at 12:00 PM, Let Cuba Live, a Maine based
Cuba solidarity group will hold a "Day of Response" to protest the
seizure of a shipment of medical supplies by U.S. Customs that
occurred on 7/2 at Coburn Gore on the Maine - Quebec border.
These medical supplies and equipment were donated to Let Cuba
Live from doctors and hospitals throughout Maine for transshipment to
Cuba via the Port of Montreal.
Let Cuba Live has steadfastly refused to apply for a license for
this shipment, believing that to do so would validate the US blockade
of Cuba. Let Cuba Live believes that a blockade that stands between
hungry people and food and sick people and and medicine is immoral,
and under international law, illegal.
Events will begin at noon with a rally in Monument Square, in
Portland and culminate with a march through the Old Port to the
Customs House.
The rally will begin with a selection of songs performed by Ethan
Miller and a reading by Richard Cambridge an award winning poet.
Speakers will include the Reverend Lucius Walker, director of IFCO
/ Pastors for Peace, Avi Chomsky a professor of Latin American
studies at Salem State College and a long time Cuba researcher and
Michael Quint, state representative from Portland Parkside.
