E-Mail sent to the Prime Ministervieuxcmaq, Monday, May 28, 2001 - 11:00
Gino Legacy (glegacy@hotmail.com)
This is a e-mail that I sent to the Prime Minister, local MP's and Alexa McDonough. I encrouge everyone opposed to the FTAA to do the same. This is an e-mail that I sent to the Jean Chretien, local MP's and Alexa McDonough. I encourage everyone opposed to the FTAA to do the same. ------------------------------- First of all, I am not an anarchist, radical, or even a left wing. I still have some faith in the democratic system. Currently, I work for a major international accounting firm as a LAN Administrator. With this said, please read the following. In short, my view of the FTAA is: Until you can agree on a strict international environmental standard that must be followed or else the parties involved will be penalized severely. Until you can give all countries an equal, unilateral playing field "Global leaders as well as developing countries", with strict labor laws in place that must be followed or else the parties involved will again be penalized. Until the threat be alleviated that corporations have the right to sue a government, especially when that government is simply trying to safeguard it's citizens from pollutants, hazardous wastes and privatization of public services. And until the FTAA is a democratic association and not a a corporate one, I will not stand for it. When I say "you", I imply the government leaders of the americas and the world! One more thing. I had little knowledge of the FTAA until I viewed the demonstrations in Quebec city on TV. After reading up on the riots and viewing numerous eye witness accounts of the malicious force used to suppress crowds of peaceful protestors "I'm acknowledging the fact that there where violent protesters, but they where few and far in between". This compelled me to read up on the FTAA and the WTO. Most of what I read disgusted me. I then decided to compose this E-Mail and forward a copy to my Local MP's and of course Alexa, who in my opinion is one of the only politicians opposed to the FTAA. If you think suppressing peaceful protestors is like sweeping dust under the rug, think again, you just recruited another one. And while I'm at it, what is your opinion on the Bush-Cheney administrations national energy policy and the refusal to regulate CO2 emmisions as set forth by the Kyoto Protocol on global warming? I'm assuming that you will soon be taking the US's lead, I pray you don't. Care to comment? Gino E. Legacy
