Quebec City, may 25th mai 2001 [A-Infos] - 150 people demonstrated "peacefully" -the evidence behing no media talked about it- yesterday in Montreal to demand general amnesty for all Summit of the Americas protesters and the liberation of the 8 remaining political prisonners still held in jail at Orsainville. At the end of the demo, while the crowd was dispersing, 2 arrests where made at Square Berri. This morning, the five political prisonners of the Germinal movement where in front of the superior court, in Quebec City, to appeal the decision of judge Mercier who refused them bail on april 23th. The final decision of the judge in this file will be made Monday morning, at 9:30 AM, at the Quebec City Court House.

Solidarity demo in Montreal: arrests once again...

The solidarity demonstration of yesterday, wich regroup 150 people in Montreal, was "peacefull". The only action that took place was a small group activists dressed in black (of course), who where making graffiti during the march (with slogan such as "Free Germinal", or "From your Black bloc"). A small scuffle happen with a bunch of merchant who didint seem to like the urban redecoration, but everything end up well as the groups managed to get back into the larger body of the demo. The demo stoped in front of the office of SNC-Lavalin,proud sponsors of the Summit, before going to the Montreal Court Hous and then come back to square berri. This where the arrests took place.

Montreal.indymedia tells the story : "Tonight, at around 7 :30 PM, 2 individuals where arrested, at Squere Berri, after a demo for the liberation of the Summit of the Americas political prisonners. More than 20 police officers surrounded the 2 individuals, while most of the protesters had leaved the place. One of them is accused of vandalism (a graffiti apparently), while the other is said to be in possession of a molotov cocktail. However, people there said that the cocktail was abandonned there earlyer by other individuals. The 2 individuals where brought to the Centre Opérationnel Sud police station. During this time 4 undercovers cops where discussing with their pals..." These facts where confirmed in court, in Quebec City, when the crown attorney made a comment on "peacefull supporters of Germinal that are arrested with molotov cocktails like yesterday in Montreal".

Considering the event of yesterday demos and the one in Quebec City 2 days earlyer (2 comrades where given fines a few hours later), it seem's more important than ever to leave any demo in groups and leave the area to avoid post-demo police harassement...
