Quebec, April 24. (CMAQ) " What worries me most, is if I am refused my release on parole and that I am obliged to remain in prison until my lawsuit; it would be lame, unjust! " affirmed the anarchistic militant, well known Jaggi Singh during an interview granted to the CMAQ starting from the prison of Orsainville where he has been imprisoned since saturdays April 20.

The Toronto anticapitalist is well, in spite
of the painful after-effects of his violent arrest. He is in a hurry well to be free because, says he, much work awaits.

Jaggi Singh worries that there is concern about his case because of his notoriety and that the journalists forget the other incidents of the weekend " I met totally extraordinary people within Orsinville prison, and I am not speaking of the guards," he deadpans. "I am very proud here, to be with as many people who know the stakes of capitalist globalization well. "

" I also make a point of letting know that the arrested
appreciate the work of the legal committee enormously, the vigils and all the work which is done outside "

THE ARREST
Jaggi Singh was literally picked up on saturday April 20 by ville de Quebec police officers. These were disguised as demonstrators and seized of Mr. Singh on rue Saint-Jean. Many witnesses to the arrest described it as being very violent. The target attests to being struck three times with a baton once inside the unmarked police van and complains even today about pains " Especially when I laugh ", he jokes.

" When the police officers grabbed me, it was deja vu ", reports the militant, refering to a similar capture by the heavy hands of the RCMP, the day before the beginning of the APEC Summit in Vancouver.

It was seven hours before he was able to speak to his lawyer and only following Monday, at the time of his appearance, when he learned the charge against him. He is said to have broken
the conditions of release in force from previous arrest -- just as arbitrary in his opinion --, of having
taken part in a riot and, more seriously, of having been in possession a weapon with the intention of using it. The weapon in question was a catapult (!) which, according to witnesses, was used in Saturdays demonstration to launch cuddly
toys, stuffed animals, into the perimeter.

Jaggi Singh rejects this last charge, judging it vaguely nutty " I acknowledge that I was very amused by the catapult. I found that it was a good form to make fun of the security measures. But it was not my catapult. At most, my curiosity
pushed me near it at the time its use "

As for the charge to have taken part in a riot, he understands this little more quère " All that I did during this
function was to address the people of Quebec, asking them to forgive my bad French, explaining the stakes that brought people into the streets. When the water cannons arrived on the boulevard Rene-Lévesque , I left to go to rue Saint-Jean where there was a completely peaceful street festival. "

On the charge of breaching his bail conditions, Mr. Singh
presses that they were fuzzy enough to allow police the discretion to interpret them as it suited them.

SCAPEGOATS
To explain its own arrest and that of other militants, Jaggi
Singh suspects the authorities of being in the search of scapegoats. He specifically considers the targeted Germinal group on which faces very serious charges and who most think will be refused freedom before trial.

A very active militant within the anti-capitalist convergence (CLAC), Jaggi Singh took part in the last months" rounds of mobilization in English Canada, in the Maritimes and in the American North-East. During the beginning of
the weekend of the Summit of Americas, he involved himself by making speeches, distributing leaflets and coordinating a general Assembly. He was on the point of heading towards
the the People"s Summit to deliver a speech when he was taken

" They must think that I was leading, a leader", he proposes. "However, I am one militant among others "

CORROBORATED ASSERTIONS
The version of the facts presented by the militant was
confirmed by at least two witnesses questioned by CMAQ. These
witnesses and of many others describe the activist as humanistic and non-violent " I never made violent gestures
and I never advised anybody to," declares Mr. Singh. Personally, I choose non-violent means of action "

" The groups which support the use of the force do not find
Jaggi radical enough for their taste, precisely because I am
non-violent ", explains Nicolas Phébus, who knows the
radical anarchist movement well.

In addition the group which brought the catapult to the
demonstration of Quebec explained, by way of an official statement, that Mr. Singh was not in any manner related to their group.

WednesdayApril 25, Jaggi Sigh will know if he will have
to prolong his stay in prison.
