Vieques' organizations condemn U.S. hypocrisy of calling for "a hemisphere of liberty" in Quebec, while their military plans to resume the bombings of Vieques, Puerto Rico.

Vieques' organizations condemn U.S. hypocrisy of calling for "a hemisphere of liberty" in Quebec, while their military plans to resume the bombings of Vieques in spite of the will of the people and formal requests from the Government. This small island of nearly 10,000 people has suffered under U.S. military occupation for over 60 years. Any further bombing of the island will be considered as a military aggression and a violation human (health) rights of the Puerto Rican people. If the military aggression of our Island takes place, the people will respond by means civil resistance. The people of Vieques and the people of Puerto Rico don’t want to be part of the war machine that is used as the bully and bodyguard of capitalist’s interests in the Americas and the world. We support the struggle waged by those present in Quebec and request solidarity with our demands for the demilitarization and ecological preservation of our Caribbean region.

Vieques Libre - highlights the ongoing opposition to the U.S. Navy presence on the island.
