Project presentation

While the poverty globalizers will hide behind the security perimeter which will encircle the center of Quebec City, the inhabitants of all of the Americas are invited to the 'Solidarity
Perimeter' from the 16th to the 22th of April. By offering a variety of completely public activities within a geographic space chosen for it's symbolic significance, the conferences, debates and shows of the Solidarity Perimeter have, in summary, the following aims :

1- To offer a tribune where thousands of people can freely discuss the issues at stake and resist neoliberal globalization and 'free-trade' while staying in Quebec.
2- To allow those who know less, from Quebec and elsewhere, to better understand the implications of globalizations through introductory workshops.
3- To open an area where we can put in common our experience and competence concerning our activism and commitment.
4- To support socially and politically involved artistic expression.
5- To promote a greater proximity between the Quebec population and the various groups and individuals resisting the potential Free Trade Area of the Americas.

Essentially composed of a vast array of conferences and debates that will take place in various locations of the Limoilou neighbourhood (see website for more info), this week of activities will also include some musical shows and a set of theoretical and practical workshops related to aspects of activist life such as, for example, interaction with the media or legal and civil protection.

We will also produce a survival guide for Quebec 2001 that will include maps, practical information and schedules for the Solidarity Perimeter; it will be printed in sufficient quantities and distributed as widely as possible.

Finally, to ensure the infrastructure necessary for the proper workings of this project, we will establish within the Centre Horizon, between the 17th and 22th of April, a welcoming center, a convergence center, a legal help office, a medical center and, if possible, a nursery. This, of course, to facilitate the stay of our foreign companions and make it safer for all. We will make sure that people speaking English and Spanish will be present at the Centre Horizon.

As the rulers will assemble within the wall of shame surrounding their negotiations, the Solidarity Perimeter invites you in the popular Limoilou neighbourhood and in other locations of our city, to discuss and celebrate the globalization of our resistance to the destructive effects on our lives caused by the bulldozer of market globalization.
