Montreal to host pre-summit conference

Before everyone packs their gas masks and puppets for the FTAA summit in Quebec City, they might want to consider something that's happening beforehand, closer to home. La Conférence de Montréal will see government and corporate officials meet at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, from April 17 to 20.

Many of the same ministers and heads of state will fly directly to Quebec afterwards. The conference, which has happened annually since 1994, is rumored to be where a lot of the real deal-making for the FTAA summit may take place.

The two themes of this year’s conference are “Prosperity in the Americas,
