Cost of Free Speech at Concordiavieuxcmaq, Friday, March 16, 2001 - 12:00

Barriers to FTAA protest participation still exist at Concordia. Students are planning a protest for Tuesday March 20 at 3pm. The cost of "free" speech? At Concordia it is $15-75 ($15 per exam deferral). Concordia's Senate made the news recently by declaring an "academic amnesty" for students wishing to exercise their freedom of speech in Quebec City this coming April. But freedom of speech will only apply to those who can afford it. $15 per exam deferral will be charged to those students whose exams conflict with the Summit schedule. This will result in fees as high as $75 for some students. That's fine if your dad is Jean Monty or Conrad Black, but What can you do? Come out to the FTAA-Alert's protest: Concordia Hall Building 1455 de Maisonneuve West, 3pm, Tuesday, March 20. Write Vice Rector Jack Lightstone- Write Vice Rector Jack Lightstone |
