86 day peace walk from Dublin will stop at Downing Street on Hiroshima anniversary

After 86 days on the road since leaving Dublin on May 13th the Footprints for Peace group on their "Towards a Nuclear Free Future" peace walk will stop at Downing Street.

Marcus Atkinson: International Coordinator for Footprints for Peace, said "With the government now putting Nuclear Power back on the agenda we all need to take urgent action to stop this disregard for future generations. Nuclear power is not our solution to climate change and whoever thinks it is, has not looked close enough at the effects that the industry has on people and the environment."

You can not have nuclear power without the mining of uranium and the enrichment process. These two processes alone are responsible for the destruction of indigenous people’s sacred lands through out the world. The mining companies are using incredible amounts of water and have a huge reliance on fossil fuels to mine and transport the uranium.

The enrichment process continues it’s use of CFC’s with Government exemptions from the decades old ban which was imposed by governments through out the world because of the evidence that CFC’s were largely responsible for creating the Ozone Layer hole.

After all of this you are left with thousands of tons of highly radioactive waste along with the threat of proliferation of nuclear weapons through out the world. Already there is a huge black market for nuclear materials and way too much of it in the world for governments to keep safe for the next 100 thousand years.

We need to demand that governments scrap their plans to build more nuclear weapons and demand that they stop their support of the nuclear power industry.

Governments need to start looking into real solutions to climate change and start building up friendships instead of weapons of Mass Destructions.

This is the message we have carried since we left Dublin 86 days ago and this is the message we will bring to Downing Street?
