This week's summary of under-reported news

Compiled by Bob Nixon

Pakistan President Gen. Pervez Musharraf ignited a political firestorm by suspending Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who had blocked Musharraf's effort to be re-elected, in a ruling that prohibited him from being president and military chief at the same.

An unfolding scandal puts $700 million of U.S. aid to Colombia at risk: An internal CIA report claims Colombia's army chief, Gen. Mario Montoya made a secret deal with a right-wing paramilitary group in 2002 to attack leftist rebels near Medellin, a nexus of the Latin American drug trade.

Democrats are seeking options to raise taxes fairly to pay off a ballooning deficit that could increase to $7.8 trillion if Bush tax cuts to wealthiest Americans are extended.

This is an alternative media using open publishing. The CMAQ collective, who validates the posts submitted on the Indymedia-Quebec, does not endorse in any way the opinions and statements and does not judge if the information is correct or true. The quality of the information is evaluated by the comments from Internet surfers, like yourself. We nonetheless have an Editorial Policy , which essentially requires that posts be related to questions of emancipation and does not come from a commercial media.
