On January 12th, 2004 the community of Kanehsata:ke said NO! to the federally imposed band council, as well as the colonial governments of Kebec and Kanada by coming out against the invading force lead by James Gabriel, terry Isaac and Larry Ross.
The ones identified by James Gabriel and his allies as enemies of the current regime, stood trial during the month of September and October. Throughout a trial infused with inconsistencies, the judge Nicole Duval-Hesler shown prejudice and even refused to consider the defense's request to obtain and examine files of the invading officers. While the crown maliciously (given that the crown was going to use it for a separate trial) insisted on the burning of James Gabriel's house in order to receive the convictions for the people involved. The proof of this will be made in the appeal.

The jury has finally reached an inconsistent verdict in this affair. Few of the more dynamic around the police station were acquitted, whereas some of the less motivated cumulated both charges of riot and forcible confinement. Others were convincted on the lesser charge of unlawful assembly only, when the common purpose of the assembly was to forcibly confine the so-called police officers in order to give them to the Kahnawake's PeaceKeepers. The jury should have EITHER convict OR acquit on BOTH charges. And acquit, considering the operation was illegal. They will all receive their sentence Tuesday, December 13th, and some may get jail time. Come support them at the Palais de Justice de St-Jérôme, and show the mass media everybody didn't swallow their lies.
