[URGENT ACTION! Come to a flyering action tomorrow - WEDNESDAY JUNE 29 at 6:30 AM (sharp!) at metro Lionel-Groulx and show your support for the Arellano-Diaz family as Canada sets to deport them to Mexico from Trudeau airport in Dorval.]

The Arellano-Diaz family is due to be deported tomorrow from Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport (Dorval) at 8:05 AM on Mexicana Flight 881, leaving from gate 52.

Friends and supporters will gather at the security gate of the airport to
give information to other passengers and denounce the deportation of the
couple and their five children, including three-year old Genesis, a
Canadian citizen.

The family fled persecution and intimidation by the Mexican police three
years ago. Jose Oscar Diaz, the father, bears visible scars on his right
arm from an attack with broken glass. However, Canada turned down their
refugee claim (in part due to incompetent legal representation) and the
family was forced into the perpetual fear of living underground to avoid
forcible expulsion. In court yesterday, Lilia Arellano, the mother,
declared that she would rather be deported anywhere but Mexico, and would
even prefer to remain in detention in Canada than to be sent home.

The family has asked the Minister of Public Safety, Anne McLellan, for a
stay of deportation so that they can submit further evidence of
persecution. So far, McLellan has refused pleas that have been made on
their behalf by Bloc MP Meili Faille and others.

During their time in Canada, the family has integrated into Quebec
society, working, going to school and learning French.

The family remains available for interviews from Laval Detention Centre,
where they, including the three year old, have been imprisoned since their
arrest.
