SOIRÉE MÉDIA LIBRE 2

To jumpstart the green season, what better way than a whole evening of independent video and creative resistance!

Quebec.Indymedia (CMAQ) invites you to the second edition of its Soirée Média Libre, on Thursday March 17, at the chic Divan Orange.

Main features :

· Leaded / Unleaded: The State Unleashed
This Indymedia Beirut production focuses on the May 2004 labour demonstrations held in some of the poorest areas of Lebanon, and violently repressed by the army. In the wake of ex-prime minister Rafik Hariri's death due to a massive bomb blast in downtown Beirut on February 14th this year, there has been little focus on the perpetual economic crisis in Lebanon, where upwards of 40% of the country's population lives below the poverty line. Many link the current economic crisis to Hariri's neo-liberal economic policies in post-war Lebanon.

· From Kalinga to Kashipur + Alcan't in India
Two short features on the struggle for self-determination waged by the indigenous people of Kashipur, India, as they oppose the construction of a gigantic Alcan-financed mining project, and the Montreal-based campaign seeking to pressure Alcan at home on the issue.

· Zanon : école de planification
A documentary about the Zanon tile factory, under worker control since the economic meltdown which shook Argentina 3 years ago.
