Anonyme, Tuesday, April 27, 2004 - 17:44

Jason C. McLean

The Infringement Festival is an interdisciplinary festival open to all critical artists, running June 10 - 20, 2004. Announcing Montreal’s first annual infringement Festival.
As an activist, democratically-run, ethically sponsored, non-profit, bilingual event, it is free for any artist, theatre group or activist to participate in. The festival is currently looking for activists, street performers, artists, theatre groups, volunteers people to help with administration. Join the infringement and reclaim your culture!

The Infringement Festival is an interdisciplinary festival open to all critical artists, running June 10 - 20, 2004.

Celebrating Freedom of Expression and designed as a real arts democracy, this festival is a critical response to the oppressive neoliberal worldview and all its Billboard Trucks, Televisions, flyers, advertisements, jingles, made-for-TV Wars; and the depoliticisation of people through this diversionary Spectacle.

More specifically it is a critical response to the now-trademarked and corporatized St. Ambroise FringeTM Festival.

The infringement welcomes a variety of performances and cultural resistance: theatre groups, performers, street activism, political theatre, musicians, radical performance, marginalized arts, disadvantaged groups, and anyone wishing to artistically infringe on the monoculture that creeps into every corner of our lives. Raging grannies. Culture-Jammers. Entartistes. Performance activists. Guerrilla Screenings. Speaker's Corners. Interventions. Happenings. Do-It-Yourself. Reclaim the Culture!

The festival is already featuring Mysteries of Montreal (A Hidden History of Canada) by acclaimed Montreal playwright and activist David Fennario, the now-infamous performance/protest Car Stories from Optative Theatrical Laboratories, Travesty Theatre’s ever-offensive, ever-fun Dead Dolls Capitalism Cabaret, a Metro Party that will spontaneously transform one metro car into a celebration of freedom, workshops, a parade, music, beer, you name it.

The festival is currently looking for theatre groups, artists, activists, volunteers and even people to fill a few administrative positions. Many more details are online:
