Up to 15,000 Iraqis Killed in First Month of War

A new study reveals that between 10,800 and 15,100 Iraqis were killed in the first month of the U.S.’ “Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Project on Defense Alternatives, an independent think-tank located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, utilized surveys, news reports, Iraqi hospital records and U.S. military statistics, as well as numbers gathered from the Iraq Body Count website and the Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict, to tally war-related deaths that occurred between March 19 and April 20. The report found that between 3,200 and 4,300 killed were innocent victims of war, or what the U.S. refers to as “collateral damage.
