The homeless will not go away quietly!!

VICTORY SQUAT NOT GOING AWAY!!

1. SOCIAL HOUSING FOR ALL IN NEED!!
2. END THE TWO YEAR WELFARE TIME LIMIT!!

For 24 days the Victory Squat remained strong under attack from the media, Vancouver Park Board, veterans, and police. The Park Board tried to scare the homeless squatters away with phony injunctions, steel fences, bad press and slander. Indeed the City was successful in creating a hostile environment in which homeless people were afraid to stay at the squat believing that they would be attacked. Shame on the City for pushing people back into the degradations of filthy alleyways and crowded shelters! The City’s attacks have exposed their own hatred for the poor.

More people have resolved to resist their living conditions! The APC has gained members despite all attempts to undermine our objectives. The Western Aboriginal Harm Reduction Society took over a second park, Crabtree Park Friday July 18th, and has held it since. Today, July 26 the APC, supporters and squatters met at Victory Square for a rally to move the squat away from the War Monument. Veteran Frank Helden, whom the media pitted against us, came to thank and march with us.

Several vehicles gathered up all the squatters belongings while police and City Engineering watched. As soon as people left the Park the giant fences around it were chained shut. The march of over 100 people snaked off through the downtown business district. In a surprise move the squatters went to the Georgia Street viaduct and blocked four lanes of traffic right over the MOLSON INDY!! A massive public traffic jam ensued. The police wailed their sirens and tried to clear the road but the marchers resisted in front of live and television audiences. After creating yet another public spectacle of poverty at a bourgeoisie-sporting event the march came off Georgia Street to the new Tent City location. Thornton Park at the Greyhound Bus Station!

People sleeping in a nearby field immediately came to camp. APC is now building shanties out of wooden skids/palettes with homeless people. Two of Vancouver’s parks are now under occupation by the homeless, no amount of intimidation and lies will end the homelessness crisis. Only guaranteed housing and welfare can do that.

DEFEAT THIS GOVERNMENT!! HOUSING AND WELFARE ARE RIGHTS!!

Call APC, donate: tents, tarps, blankets, food, medical supplies, tobacco, water, nails, hammers, etc.
