Western Canada Indymedia's 'disappeared'

Three Indymedia sites in western Canada have mysteriously been disappeared, replaced by a site promoting a gift economy.

As of December 20, and possibly earlier, the websites for three western Canada Independent Media Centres have been replaced by a website entitled "Potlatch: the Gift Economy."

Sites in Victoria, Vancouver and Alberta have all been replaced. All three are apparently hosted under a common site, as revealled in earlier Indymedia postings.

The Potlatch site itself can be found at http://potlatch.net. Perhaps the disappearances are an error, or perhaps are part of a concerted hacking campaign.

How vulnerable are Indymedia's to hacking? What kind of backup system is available, in case there is ever a widescale attempt to shut Indymedia down?

This is an alternative media using open publishing. The CMAQ collective, who validates the posts submitted on the Indymedia-Quebec, does not endorse in any way the opinions and statements and does not judge if the information is correct or true. The quality of the information is evaluated by the comments from Internet surfers, like yourself. We nonetheless have an Editorial Policy , which essentially requires that posts be related to questions of emancipation and does not come from a commercial media.
