Du 20 au 22 septembre dernier, les chefs d’État se sont réunis à New York pour faire une mise au point sur l’atteinte des objectifs du millénaire pour le développement (OMD) adoptés en 2000 et dont la réalisation est prévue en 2015. Le secrétaire général de l’ONU Ban Ki-Moon s’est dit inquiet par rapport à l’atteinte de ces objectifs, entre autres à cause de la diminution de l’aide internationale faite par les pays riches.

Il appert que des militants pacifistes américains ont reçu de la visite du FBI ces derniers jours. Sans qu’il y ait d’accusations contre eux, on les soupçonne de possible support au terrorisme.

In 1989 racial atrocities in South Africa were front and center issues. Hip Hop groups like Public Enemy, The X-Clan and B.D.P were giving voice to the racial tensions young minorities, like me, were becoming aware of at home. These groups, with their Wahhabist tenets, clearly do not represent mainstream Islam, a system of belief that is peaceful and preaches respect and tolerance of other religions. But there should be no doubt that these organizations are on a mission to claim the American Muslim community as their own.

Around the world the reputation of the US as a place of freedom and liberty where anyone can find their dream if they’re willing to work is unmatched. From all over people with dreams come to find fulfillment. That image is very well maintained. It has inspired people to not only want to come here, but to make the nations they’re from more like ours.
