Laos: What became of the young Hmong refugees expelled from Thailand three months ago?

Cyprien, Samedi, Février 25, 2006 - 04:36

Cyprien

It has been nearly three months to the day that 27 Hmong refugees - one adult and 26 teenagers aged 13 to 16-who were taken in by the provisional displaced persons settlement of Ban Houai Nam Khao (Phetchaboun province, Thailand), were expelled by the Thai authorities and sent back to Laos, according to concordant information received by the Lao Movement for Human Rights (LMHR).

This group of teenagers comprised of 21 young girls and 5 boys, was challenged by the Thai police on 28 November 2005 as they were returning from a choir practice in preparation of the Christmas celebrations.
They were taken to the border city of Nongkhai by bus in the beginning of December, and expelled towards Laos without any notice to their parents.

Nobody is allowed to take away your right to Freedom of Speech. So when they start putting us in jail for what we think and write; questions we rightfully ask, than we have lost our freedom of speech.

The anti-Islam cartoons and the imperialist powers’ strategic considerations

Anonyme, Jeudi, Février 16, 2006 - 12:43

13 February 2006. A World to Win News Service. The worldwide upsurge of anger sparked by the anti-Islamic cartoons was the main item on the agenda for the meeting of Nato defence ministers at the weekend. This reveals how much all the imperialist powers feel that their strategic interests are at stake. It is impossible to understand the fury surrounding these caricatures first published in Denmark without looking at the material interests and political and economic factors involved. It is also important to examine the relationship between those interests and the propagation of certain ideas, and the complex interaction between those two spheres.

Nepal election boycott successful, new Maoist military victories

Anonyme, Jeudi, Février 16, 2006 - 12:38

13 February 2006. A World to Win News Service. The boycott and general strike against the Nepal monarchy’s attempt to hold municipal elections 8 February was a big success – so much so that the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) called off the remaining four days of the eight-day bandh to avoid unnecessary hardship to the population. During this period, the People’s Liberation Army inflicted serious losses on the royal army in battles in widely separated regions.
