What is really at stake on August 15, 2004, in Venezuela and the World? What is the Quintessence of the Bolivarian Revolution? Definitely, it is determined by the transhistoric reality of its counterpart, that is, by global fascism, currently spearheaded by the USA.

In a normative sense, the concept "Revolution" is determined by the social class or classes, that make this revolution. It is composed of an Affirmation and a Negation. Revolution and Counter-Revolution. Whether the Revolution is "positive" or "negative" for the future of mankind depends on the participating antagonist, global, social classes. For example, with reference to the French Revolution, both the objective idealist, Hegel, and the dialectical materialist, Marx, were fascinated with the momentous changes; however, those that lost their heads under the guillotine were of a completely different opinion. Also, ever since this capitalist, bourgeois, democratic revolution, "revolution" is not the exclusive prerogative of the working classes against their slave-masters.

In Venezuela, for global fascism, for the Bush administration, the corrupt oligarchs, the Bolivarian Revolution is "undemocratic tyranny" and "terrorist dictatorship", hence, it has to be nipped in the bud, and be replaced by a democratic dictatorship for 10 to 20 years. For them, it is part of the "axis of evil". According to President Chávez, the Bolivarian Revolution is neither Marxist nor Anti-Marxist, well, it is Bolivarian, as determined by the current Bolivarian compatriots.

August 1, 2004. More than a year ago, on May 30th, 2003, I held a short lecture at the University of The Andes, Mérida, Venezuela, now, two weeks away from the "recall referendum", it is worth recollecting what I stated. FJTL.

Introduction by Prof. Dr. Franz J. T. Lee to the Forum convened by the Students Movement Utopía 78, titled: “The Current Situation of the Social Economy and Alternative Media in Venezuela", with parlamentarian Ing. Luis Tascón at the University of The Andes in Mérida, Venezuela, on May 30th 2003.
