Le 18 mars à Sokoto, Safiya Yakubu Hussaini comparaissait devant la Cour d'appel de la Charia.

Nogi Imoukhuede rapporte que le 18 mars 2002 à Sokoto, la Cour d'appel de la Charia était remplie de gens anxieux, d'officiels du ministère fédéral de la Condition féminine et de journalistes locaux et internationaux. Safiya était présente avec son bébé. Environ 16 avocats la représentaient. Le counseiller d'État a présenté son cas. Le jugement a été ajourné au 25 mars.

The journey was very long and edious. Since there was no direct route to Sokoto, we had to travel from Benin to Abuja to Kaduna to Sokoto. We arrived in Sokoto at 11.00 pm. On Monday 18th of March we were at the Sharia Court of Appeal which was packed full with anxious members of the public, officials of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, local and international journalists. Safiya was represented by about 16 lawyers and she was present with her baby. The prosecuting State Counsel presented his case and the case was adjourned to the 25th of March for judgment.
