Campus Club Is sucessful in kicking Sodexho Mariott off their campus! Victory

The Student Unity for Global Justice Club, a campus club at Cabrillo Community College in Santa Cruz, has been working hard to get Sodexho Marriott of their campus. Although Sodexho did divested from Corporation Correction of America (CCA), they are still building privatized prisons in the UK and Australia. We received great news today that the Board of Governors is NOT going to renew Sodexho's contract. This is huge victory!

We as students are concerned with Sodexho-Marriott's connections to the private prison industry. Profit motives force private prisons to cut corners and give an incentive to increase inmate populations, for example by preventing good behavior releases and lobbying for tougher drug laws and mandatory sentencing. While Sodexho ended some concerns by stating that it was withdrawing from Corrections Corporation of America and “will not own any prison or jail facility
