Russian Duma and former Russian Prime Minister declare their support for Milosevic. The Russian State Duma has overwhelmingly voted on a declaration demanding that Slobodan Milosevic be set free, and that the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) be liquidated. The support for Milosevic in the Russian Federal Assembly is very strong. The declaration passed by a vote of 326 in favor, to only 6 opposed. The former Russian Prime Minister, Yevgeny Primakov has offered to testify on Milosevic’s behalf. Primakov told the Russian TV Network ORT, “I can testify that Milosevic behaved in a most positive manner and enabled a peaceful outcome. I am thinking of Bosnia, where the bloodletting stopped thanks to Milosevic and his incontestably positive role in Kosovo. I was prime minister of Russia at the time when Yugoslavia was bombed (by NATO during the 1999 Kosovo conflict) and I took an active part in the settlement of the Yugoslav problem. |
