The N9 coalition of Montreal is having a planning and organizing meeting this Monday @ 7pm Cafe Chaos 1637 St. Denis. We will be dicussing details as to the local mobilization against the WTO here in Montreal. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST AGAINST THE WTO From November 9-13th the World Trade Organization will be meeting in the isolated monarchy of Qatar. Major protests are being organized throughout the world and within the Montreal are community groups, individuals and organizations are excited and grearing up for N9 also. The WTO attacks the very foundations of human society; these WTO agreements allow transitional corporations control over every area of our lives, from health-care to education to clean and accessible drinking water. We have no say in the decisions our government leaders and their corporate friends are making. As community activists and organizers our goal is not the abolition of the WTO, but rather the dismantling of the capitalist system. We feel this goal cannot be accomplished without fighting systems of white supremacy and patriarchy, and resisting the effects that these institutions have had on our own organizing. Organizers and activists of color have been mobilizing a resistance since the first days of colonization, and that resistance grows strongly today. Unfortunately, white organizers and activists often ignore this history, perpetuating the myth that this movement started at the WTO protests in Seattle. We respect and support any and all tactics which will further the fight against capitalism, racism and patriarchy. However we understand that the escalation of militance can put people and groups in danger, therefore we expect and urge that militant actions be done in a respectful manner, with accountability to poor communities and communities of color. The N9 Montreal action group is opposed to capitalism. We fundamentally reject a social and economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and exchange. We reject a system driven by an exploitative logic that sees human beings as human capital, ecosystems as natural resources, and culture as simply a commodity. We reject the idea that the world is only valuable in terms of profit, competition and efficiency. We also reject the ideology of neo-liberalism, whereby corporations and investors are exempt from all political and social measures that interfere with their so-called "success". We are anti-imperialist, opposed to patriarchy, and denounces all forms of exploitation and oppression. We assert a worldview based on the respect of our differences and the autonomy of groups, individuals and peoples. Our objective is to globalize our networks of resistance to corporate rule. Respecting a diversity of tactics, we support the use of a variety of creative initiatives, ranging between popular education to direct action Here in Montreal the N9 coalition is building toward a day of action on N9, we encourage people to get involved. We work in spirit of the organizing that went into the FTAA demonstration in Quebec city last year and the organizing that happens in our communities on a daily basis. Lastly, N9 coalition recognizes that the realization of a free society requires one thing above all: that we organize ourselves to win, that we struggle in order to prevail. ****************************************************************************** contact n9m...@yahoo.ca Liste de contact du comité N9 Fianance: Action: Logementlogistics Housinglogistics ÉducationEducation ExterneExternal Commau.Outreach SuiviFollow up |
