Seeking demographic info on Quebec City

vieuxcmaq, Dimanche, Juin 17, 2001 - 11:00

Saul Abramson (wildlamb@aol.com)

Looking for info on the demographics of Quebec City: racial make-up, percentages primarily speaking French, English, and other languages, unemployment figures, etc. for an article assessing the anti-FTAA mobilization and lessons for similar mass actions in different US cities.

Hello, friends. I'm a writer based in Boston who is working on a piece assessing lessons from Quebec City and seeing how they can be applied to upcoming mobilizations in the US, especially the demonstrations against the World Bank and IMF in DC. I'm particularly looking at community outreach done before the Summit.

I need information on the racial make-up of Quebec City, the linguistic make-up (percentages who speak French, English, and other languages as their primary tongue), unemployment figures and class make-up, and so on. I'm also interested in info on the strength of Quebecois nationalism, whether in poll numbers or in people's general impressions.

I hope to use this information to compare the outreach done in Quebec to outreach that needs to be done in DC. My impression is that DC faces some different obstacles, particularly in having a more heterogeneous and segregated racial make-up. But these are just impressions, and I need facts.

Please send any information to wild...@aol.com or post it. Thanks!
