A short analysis of who is represented at the World Social Forum and the World Economic Forum. The true protagonists of the two larger mobilizations already materialized to debate the search of directions to eliminate poverty in the Earth and, thus, to promote the inclusion of hundred-million human beings from the group of people already favored with the enormous bounties of the civilization, properly the poor, won't be present at the World Economical Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, or at the World Social Forum, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, which have simultaneously begun today, in both cities. And this situation is comprehensible. The poor are very busy in trying to survive day after day, and are spread in remote areas of Africa, Asia, and Latin America, although extremely poverty pockets can be occasionally found, even in the rich countries. They probably neither know about the existence of the Forums. But, if the poor people are not looking for solutions for their poverty, who are those 13 thousand people (3 thousand at Davos and 10 thousand in Porto Alegre) willing to solve their problems? First of all, it is important to observe, who are the ones not included in that effort, in other words, that are not among the ones coming to Porto Alegre, willing to discuss, present proposals and show the advances achieved with the development projects already implemented. Differently from the 50s and 60s, those who, in other times, presented themselves as the champions of the equalitarian society and exclusive holders of the Utopia of a happy world are playing rather minor roles in the debates looking for overcoming the poverty and, therefore, the construction of a more equalitarian world. For example, the remaining communist governments of the so-called really existent socialism from North Korea, China, Cuba and Vietnam won't stand out in Davos or Porto Alegre, because the economical and social progress they would have to present to the world as alternatives to the capitalism and globalization are poor and scandalously inferior to the cost those governments charged to their people, with the elimination of freedom and the use of such a cold and brutal force to keep the people frightful and, so, continue in power. And then? The truth is that, basically, in the pleasant Davos and Porto Alegre, representatives of the elites, wealthy or rich people from rich and poor countries, and their organizations will gather, next days, searching for the economical and social development. The fundamental difference is that, there, in Davos, it stands out big economical organizations and economists that don't hide their concern of making men getting the control of the globalization process and technological development, establishing policies of economical growth that can generate benefits to the poor more quickly. It is different In Porto Alegre; here, militants and activists will gather, many of them belonging to the same families that are in Davos representing giant networks of Non-governmental Organizations - NGOs (almost all of them supported by the rich countries, in other words, the folks of Davos), and, instead of the economists, sociologists and political scientists stand out, looking for the establishment of exclusive policies of social promotion, besides fundamental changes in the so-called World Order. |
