[G20 Toronto] Video-report of the People First protestMichael Lessard..., Samedi, Juin 26, 2010 - 20:30 (Reportage ind. / Ind. news report | Video | Droits / Rights / Derecho | G8-G20 | Guerre / War | Imperialism | Poverty | Repression | Resistance & Activism) [ make sure the HQ version is on ] Contains issues, causes and the People First protest. June 26, 2010 Toronto - Video report of the protests : from the Peace Rally at 12:30, to the march against the Ethiopian pm, to the crowd surrounding the police at 16:00. This video does not represent the entire march of course. Many contingents and groups are not visible here. I was not able to film everything since it was very difficult to move around with all the police blockades. The positive aspect of the video, in my opinion, is the presence of issues and messages.
Context : This video shows many colourful and interesting actions till 16:30 where the repression was limited. To produce this video quickly that day, at the Alter Media Centre in Toronto, I had to leave and so I missed what followed... This video does not show the rest which was ugly: you can find, on the Internet, a multitude of videos showing how the police decided to force people off the streets. Even ordinary people, who were simply on their street, got a taste of this. Many people were brutalized and arrested, including folks sitting peacefully on the grass in the hopes of avoiding the repression.
