During the night of January 3rd, 1989, a fight broke out between Yvon Lafrance and his boyfriend in the Centre-Sud neighborhood of Montreal. Cops from station 33 were sent to their home. Dominic Chartier was way too nervous. He shot and killed Lafrance. According to the police version, Chartier shot Lafrance when he was running towards the cops. But a witness sais the opposite. According to Stéphance Hénault, a neighbor who saw what happend trough his window, when the officer shot Lafrance he was not moving nor dangerous.
As is the norm with cases of police killings, the investigation was made by an other police service, the Sûreté du Québec. And as usual, it was a real joke. Chartier was cleared, invoking legitimate “self-defense
