Harper forces an electionAnonyme, Vendredi, Octobre 5, 2007 - 21:50

HIS ULTIMATUM TO THE OPPOSITION BEFORE THE SPEECH OF THE THRONE IS READ, PROVES THAT HE WANTS AN ELECTION IMMEDIATELY, BEFORE THE LIBERAL PARTY HAS TIME TO RECOVER FROM THE BY-ELECTIONS IN QUEBEC. The three opposition parties must defeat Harper in the first confidence vote of the House. They cannot be in parliament – as representatives of their ridings – accepting the command of Harper. He speaks of his determination to govern once the Speech of the Throne is approved. This deserves our applause. After more than a year of non-government it would be good to see something done in the area of Childcare, Medicare, social services, climatic control, etc, etc, etc. The only thing we have seen during the last parliament was the removal of all the measures prepared in Committee by the opposition and approved by the House. I don’t think that we want a government of blah-blah-blah to prolong its reactionary policies, bowing to the Multinationals and to Bush. I am apolitical but have voted NDP since I am a Canadian Citizen, but this time I will vote Liberal. Dion is passing the crisis of the transition from a very technically qualified Minister to the leader of the Nation. Quebec continues hating the liberals for the scandals of Chrétien and Martin, even when they know that Dion had noting to do with it. The rest of the country knows Mr. Dion from the very negative light of the personal-attack-ads of Harper and do not remember that he was one of the most effective ministers working for the unity and solidarity of all Canadians. Tricky Mr. Harper is dangerous because he is foxy. He speaks one thing but hides all his real orientations. Now we learn in a tangential manner that Harper believes that the presence of our troops in Afghanistan must be extended beyond the date of our commitments to NATO. He continues preaching a non-solution to global warming that pleases the multinationals and his mentor, the drunken Texan. Mr. Danny Williams, Premier of NL, is absolutely right when he states that Harper is a liar and his word and signature are worthless. The more time the Opposition gives Harper, the corporate Canadian press owned by Multinational will brainwash the electorate and some of us may be hypnotized to vote for the reactionaries of the West. As far as I am concerned, my mid is made up now and nothing will change it. We must elect a real government, with an honorable prime minister. Harper used the propaganda of being the “leader? that united the conservatives but we have seen that he has lead Canada nowhere and he is commanding the opposition to follow him blindly, before the Speech of the Throne is read. This is another red hearing of the reactionaries of the West and the Opposition must precipitate the election feared by Harper in the first vote of confidence. We need a government, not a propaganda machine. Jorge Torrealba, |
