STOP THE DEPORATIONS OF 1000 ALGERIANS

FRIDAY, JULY 26th at 5:30 PM
Citizenship & Immigration Canada
1010 St-Antoine west (corner of Peel, metro Bonaventure)

We need your help for the coming demonstration "Stop the Deportations" organized to raise awareness and to build resistance to the pending deportation of 1000 Algerians living here in Montreal. On April 5th Immigration Canada lifted the moratorium on deportations to Algeria, which put the 1000 non-status Algerians living here in Montreal at a high risk of being deported back to Algeria.

The moratorium protected Algerians who were not recognized as refugees by Canada, permitting them to remain on Canadian soil due to the extreme violence in Algeria that has taken the lives of 150,000 people, and where more than 8,000 others have disappeared. Minister Coderre's decision aims to defend and promote the economic interests of a political and economic elite who want open borders for business.

There are many tasks that need to be done to make this demonstration a success. This demonstration is a step in the larger campaign to fight against the Algerian deportations and is also in ways inspired by the spirit and ideas which fueled the No One is Illegal! demonstration which took place during the anti-G8 mobilization Take the Capital! in Ottawa on June 27th.

====> If your group or organization would like to endorse and/or mobilize for the coming demonstration, please send an email with the name of your group or organization to - c...@tao.ca or call 514.409.2049

====> We are asking people that they bring their flags of resistance to the demonstration, to make this action as colorful and as powerful as possible. Bring your flags, banners, placards etc.

====> We need peoples help with getting the word out, passing out flyers and putting up posters around the city. You will be able to pick up posters for the demonstration this week @ CKUT Radio which is located 3647 University Street just below Pine Avenue (metro McGill)

====> We need your help with chants & slogans. If you have chants in french or english, which highlight the resistance to the "war at home & the war abroad". The war at home being represented by the potential deportation of 1000 Algerians, the war abroad played out with "War on Terrorism". If you have chants & slogans please email them to - alge...@yahoo.com or call 514.409.2049
