50,000 in the Streets of Victoria Protest Extremist Government Agenda
neo-Liberal government of B.C. Hears from fifty thousand disgruntled citizens.
In a procession stretching more than a mile, thousands of British Columbians marched on the legislature this afternoon in hopes of reversing the extreme agenda set out by the B.C. Liberal government.
Unions chartered ferries and hired dozens of buses to deliver members from across the province to the capital to protest the government's anti-labour policies, which include the nullification of contracts and cutting of thousands of jobs from the civil service.
The protest was the latest in a string of actions by citizens concerned about cuts to health and welfare, education, environmental protection, and the government's hardline on union negotiations. Many here expect a general strike will be the only way to get the attention of the ruling Liberals, who feel their massive majority legitimizes policies never revealed during their election campaign.
